In early June 2025, a series of ICE raids across Los Angeles led to the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops—bypassing state leadership and marking one of the first such mobilizations without a governor’s consent since the 1960s. In response, and in an effort to reclaim the city while protecting its immigrant communities, widespread protests erupted throughout Los Angeles.
